Every wedding has a moment that stays with me long after I've delivered the gallery. For Karen and Tom, there wasn't just one.
It was Karen's first look with her dad on the staircase at Cornhill Castle. It was Tom's face when he realised the helicopter waiting outside was for him, his dad and his two sons. And it was the joy that carried right through to the final song from Drums N' Roses.
Days like this remind me that wedding photographs aren't just about how a day looked. They're about how it felt!
Getting ready
Karen spent the morning getting ready in the honeymoon suite, which is flooded with beautiful natural light. It's the perfect space for those quieter moments before everything begins.
Before making her way downstairs, she shared a first look with her dad on the castle's beautiful staircase. As he turned to see his daughter in her wedding dress for the first time, there wasn't a dry eye in the room. It was such a genuine, emotional moment and one that I'm sure neither of them will ever forget.
It's still one of my favourite photographs from the entire day.
While Karen was getting ready, she'd also been planning something very special for Tom. Waiting outside was a helicopter.
Tom had absolutely no idea. Karen had secretly arranged for him, his dad and his two sons to enjoy a helicopter flight before the ceremony. Watching the surprise unfold was wonderful, but what made it so special wasn't the helicopter itself. It was seeing four generations of family create a memory together before the wedding even began.
Standing back and watching Tom realise what Karen had planned was one of those moments where I was reminded why I love photographing weddings.
The ceremony
Karen and Tom exchanged their vows in Cornhill Castle's beautiful ballroom, one of my favourite ceremony spaces to photograph.
It's elegant without ever feeling overwhelming, and the natural light creates such a warm atmosphere. It allows every smile, every laugh and every happy tear to shine through beautifully while keeping the focus exactly where it belongs.
Portraits around the castle
After the ceremony, we took some time to explore the castle grounds and make the most of everything Cornhill Castle has to offer.
The grand staircase and front entrance always create timeless portraits, but my favourite location has to be the twin windows.
Positioning Karen and Tom in opposite windows, looking towards one another, created one of my favourite photographs from the day. It's simple, elegant and instantly recognisable as Cornhill Castle. If you're getting married here, it's definitely worth making time for.
The details
From the flowers to the cake, every detail complemented the venue beautifully. Karen and Tom chose several of Cornhill Castle's recommended suppliers, and everything came together effortlessly to create a day that felt elegant, relaxed and completely their own.
Dancing into the evening
As the evening celebrations got underway, the dance floor quickly filled. Karen and Tom celebrated into the night with fantastic live music from Drums N' Roses, who kept everyone dancing from start to finish. It was the perfect ending to a day filled with emotion, thoughtful surprises, laughter and memories that will last a lifetime.
Planning your Cornhill Castle wedding
Cornhill Castle remains one of my favourite venues to photograph. From the beautiful staircase and light-filled ballroom to those iconic twin windows, every wedding here offers something unique.
If you're planning your own wedding at Cornhill Castle, I'd love to help you tell your story in a way that feels just as timeless when you're looking back in twenty years as it does on the day itself.
