The power of the cape
I should start by saying I love veils, especially long cathedral veils that envelop an entire wedding party, almost like the mist that shrouds the hills in Loch Lomond. They remind me of the romance and mist of Glencoe, as well as the purity of a day that is especially meaningful for two people committing their lives to each other in front of their family and friends.

Except the cape has now entered the conversation and is now a real competitor, and I’m here for it. The cape speaks of old Hollywood glamour, of stature, of timeless elegance, and I’ve only experienced it twice in my ten years as a wedding photographer. Both occasions left me in awe, coveting a garment worn for even less time than the dress, which gave way to create so many beautiful, elegant photographs in its short sojourn up the aisle and back again.

Reflecting on my own wedding, I didn’t wear a veil, but a cape! Well, had one been on offer, I would surely have given it a whirl. It would have concealed my arms and bust, giving me security and confidence to carry throughout the day. A security I didn’t realise I wanted until my eyes fell upon one for the very first time.
As the bride walked up the aisle, the trail was almost regal, with movement and elegance. Secure on her shoulders, there was no doubt who the bride was in that room, and no one would or could upstage something so beautiful. It gave something extra, something special and something unforgettable.

When you say yes to the dress, consider saying yes to the veil and while you’re there ask if they stock capes!
